The ARTDOGS studios and residency are located at 277 -275 Water Street, Gardiner Maine. The building was purchased by Karen Adrienne in the summer of 2004. On May 26th 2005 the Artdogs held their grand opening to celebrate the renovation of the facility and to introduce themselves to the community. In July the first class was offered, a three day bookmaking workshop.

The ARTDOGS building consists of four floors. A storefront on the street level. The two middle floors are day-studio spaces. The top floor is a studio-residence.

The ARTDOGS facility was designed to be flexible. The studio and residency spaces were created with the intent of accommodating many different art disciplines.

The ARTDOGS is an historic building in the middle of downtown Gardiner. It is located across from Johnson Park, close to restaurants and shops, and with a lovely view of the Cobbossee Stream.

There are 6 rentable artist day-studios. Two on the first floor and 4 on the second floor. There is also a rentable studio/residence on the 3rd floor.

Each studio is unique, but every studio comes with heat, electricity, and phone / cable hook ups. Some studios have their own restroom, while shared restrooms and sinks are conveniently close to others. The facility provides exhibition areas with track lighting and a communal kitchen area. In addition there is a tool closet with tools that can be borrowed for in-house use.

277 Water Street has a rich history and has been a vital part of the Gardiner downtown since 1864, when it was a dry goods store. Over the years it has housed a confectionery (1872), a music store (1886), millinery (1895), shoe store (1909), clothing store (1920), and more. The street address has changed from 68 to 181 to 277-275 Water Street over the years, and the building survived the Gardiner fire of 1888.

Flood link to check out the tide table of the Kennebec. ARTDOGS Studios is on the flood plane, so in heavy springtime rain we need to monitor the river height.
